Cut the paper shapes for the misile housing cover, and test them for size before actually cutting balsa out.
Get the cover as well aligned with the rest of the framework as possible - it will save sanding later!
Here are two missile housings with the front covers on and sanded.
The missile hatch hinges are made from soldered copper wire. Bend as shown on the plan.
The full-size boat has several ridges down the outside sides of the missile housings. These are shown on the plans - use 1/16" balsa strip for these as shown.
Here are some completed hinges.
Pre-curve the cover by merging it around a broom-handle. If it cracks don't worry - it can easily be butt-joined as it goes on.
The full-sized boat has a tringular ridge on the front of the missile hatch - make it as shown on the plan from 1/8" balsa.
Locate each missile housing in its lugs on the inside of the deck, then swing the housing over the the side and mark where small slots need to be cut in the skin to take the outside lugs.
Here is the rubbing strip being joined to the hull. Note the small slots left open where the missile housings will go. Items are painted seperately, then attached to the hull right at the end.
...and here is what they look like when painted and attached to the hull. Make sure the paint is dry before sliding the superstructure in next to them.
The framework will be held square once the balsa rectangle is attached under the front housing.
